“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me…. whatever you did not do for the least of these, you did not do for me.’

– Matthew 25:41-43, 45b

In the parable of the sower (Matthew 13, Mark 4 and Luke 8), Jesus mentions that the seed that fell among thorns represented the person who receives the word, but does not mature and becomes unfruitful because of the worries of life, the deceitfulness of riches and pleasures. This is a person who has accepted and receives the message of Jesus Christ, but their mindset is still operating from the perspective of the way the world operates. Their mission, ambition and aspirations are centered around how they can please themselves, benefit themselves and use the abilities, gifts and talents they have been blessed by God to use for His glory to serve themselves. Though they have received the treasure of the kingdom of God, through faith in Christ,  they have not made the deliberate investment and daily sacrifice required to experience the hidden spiritual life Christ came for them to have. Jesus requires us to take up our cross daily, to make an intentional decision daily, to live in a way that requires personal sacrifice and a faith investment in living in a manner that reflects the person of Jesus Christ.

A person who matures and becomes fruitful learns to model and reflect the person of Jesus Christ daily in how they live, conduct themselves and interact with others that leads others to Christ and draws those who already believe closer to God. A person who has faith in Christ operates from the perspective of heaven, because the Bible teaches that those who believe have the mind of Christ. “‘My food,’ said Jesus, ‘is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.’ – John 4:34 NIV Jesus was fueled by the internal spiritual drive to fulfill the will of God and live for the glory of God the Father. His treasure was hidden in allowing the kingdom of God to advance in and through Him to change the world around Him. Jesus invested His life in establishing the kingdom of God in the earth leaving the imprint of God’s person, presence and power wherever He went affecting positive change in the lives of many He touched, changed and transformed.

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20 NIV The One whose treasure was in fulfilling the will of God now lives in all who believe to help us live, experience the hidden spiritual life and invest ourselves in the advancement of God’s kingdom in the earth to store up for ourselves treasure in heaven. God is challenging the Christian to live a balanced lifestyle that strives to better themselves while also striving to invest in building up and blessing others also. When God spoke to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, God told Abraham He would bless Abraham, but He also told Abraham that he would be a blessing to others and the world would be blessed because of him. The book of Galatians teaches that we are heirs of the promise of Abraham, so God has blessed us, in Christ, to be a blessing to others and store up for ourselves treasure in heaven. The person who becomes unfruitful and does not mature, according to the parable of the sower, is the person who does not mature in faith to learn to become crucified with Christ and live in a manner worthy of the gospel that becomes a blessing to others.

May God bless you and help you to allow Christ to live in you and through you in a way that allows you to invest yourself in the advancement of the kingdom of God in the earth to bless others, make the world around you better, store up for yourself treasure in heaven and experience the fullness of life Christ came for you to have.
