“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts, we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”

– 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 NIV

When life becomes unsettling, God provides us with His word as a firm foundation for us to stand upon, by faith, to keep us from falling. During dark times and difficult moments, He is our light and our salvation and very present help in times of trouble. No matter our status in life, stature, or upbringing, injustice, misfortune and grief besets us all. In the face of hardships, God invites us to draw close to Him, cast upon Him our fears, anxieties and desires and trust Him to defend us and deliver us.

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” – 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NIV There are moments in life when it appears God is acting contrary to what He promises in His word. The reality of the circumstances in our life causes us to feel that God is allowing things to happen that are beyond our ability to handle and we are without a way of escape from the trouble. Faith challenges us , in those moments, to trust God’s faithfulness, His promises, His power and the sufficiency of His grace to protect us and preserve us despite the condition of our present circumstances.

God is with us, at our side, to uphold us and uplift us and lead us in triumphant procession beyond the distress and duress we face in this life. God is our refuge, our shield and our fortress. Despite the intensity of your anguish and the weight of your disappointment, let God know your need for Him. Express to Him your desire for Him to reveal Himself, manifest and make Himself known to you in the midst of what you face and watch Him respond to you to empower you to get through what you’re facing. He loves you and wants you to know and rely on His love He has for you in Christ Jesus.

May God bless you and help you to rely upon His grace, strength and power to aid you in standing firm against what come against you to experience the fullness of life Christ came for you to have.
